Before you start

Unplug the machine before opening panels or touching internal components. Stop if you see damaged wiring, smell burning, or are unsure about a pressurized or electrical part.

Quick answer: On a Magnifica Evo with a removable infuser, turn the machine off with its button, let it finish its shutdown cycle, then unplug before opening the side access door. Press the two colored release buttons, pull out the infuser, soak it in fresh water for about five minutes, rinse under the tap, and reinsert it until it clicks. Use water only on the infuser; detergent can damage it. Check the instructions for your exact ECAM29x variant.

When to clean it

De’Longhi’s Magnifica Evo manual says at least once a month. Coffee residue around the removable unit can also make routine service harder. A stuck unit is a separate problem: follow our brew group stuck guide if the machine has not parked correctly.

Before touching the mechanism

Have a bowl of fresh water and a clean soft brush ready. Wait until the machine is completely off, then unplug it. The infuser cannot be extracted while the machine is on. Never yank it past resistance or use dishwasher detergent, a dishwasher, solvent or metal picks on the infuser.

Infuser cleaning: four checkpoints

01Power downUse the power button, wait for shutdown to finish, then unplug.
02ReleaseRemove the tank if needed, open the door, press both colored buttons and pull gently.
03RinseSoak the infuser in lukewarm water for about five minutes; rinse with water only.
04RefitPress PUSH until it clicks; check that the release buttons spring back out.

Remove, clean and refit

  1. Switch the machine off normally; wait for shutdown and unplug it. Remove the water tank to access the infuser door on the side, following your model’s manual.
  2. Open the door. Press both colored buttons inward and pull the infuser straight out. If it does not release, close up and follow the stuck-unit diagnosis; do not pry.
  3. Immerse the infuser in fresh water for about five minutes, then rinse under the tap. Gently brush coffee residue from the accessible infuser seat, without pushing debris into the mechanism.
  4. Slide the infuser onto its support and press on the marked PUSH area until it clicks. Make sure the release buttons have sprung back out, then close the door and reinstall the tank.

What the result tells you

If the unit sits correctly but coffee remains watery, check the Magnifica Evo watery coffee guide. If there is no coffee output, use the no-coffee diagnosis. Cleaning will not fix a broken latch, internal leak or motor fault; arrange service for those symptoms.

FAQ

Can I wash it with dish soap?

No. The referenced manual instructs water only for the infuser.

Why will it not come out?

The mechanism may not be parked after an incomplete power-off. Let the machine complete a normal shutdown; never pull against a locked unit.
