A red general-alarm light is a reason to stop and identify the exact warning before trying a reset. On a De’Longhi Magnifica Evo, first compare the illuminated symbol and whether it is steady or flashing with the manual for the full ECAM29X number on the rating label. Control panels differ between versions. The steps below apply when your manual identifies the pattern as a general alarm or red exclamation mark; another light pattern may call for a different action.
A general alarm is a broad warning. It does not, by itself, prove that the infuser, motor, sensor or control board has failed. De’Longhi’s general-alarm advice starts with a normal shutdown and cleaning of removable parts and accessible coffee residue. Stop if a part will not release freely.
What to record before you switch off
- Photograph the full panel. Note if the triangle or exclamation mark is steady or blinking and whether other symbols are lit.
- Write down the full model number, for example the exact ECAM29X suffix, rather than “Magnifica Evo” alone.
- Note whether the alarm appeared during startup, after removing the drip tray, after cleaning the infuser or during brewing.
- Check for a leak, a burning smell or unusual grinding noise. Leave the machine off if any of these are present.
Safe checks in order
- Shut down normally. Press the power button and wait for the shutdown cycle to finish before opening the service door. Then unplug the machine.
- Remove the tray assembly. Empty and clean the drip tray and grounds container. Check that loose grounds are not preventing them from seating fully.
- Inspect the infuser only if your variant permits it. Follow the exact manual. If it releases freely, remove it with the intended controls, rinse it with warm water and allow it to drain. Do not pull a stuck infuser with tools.
- Clean accessible residue. Wipe or vacuum loose coffee grounds in the user-accessible compartment, especially behind the grounds container. Keep water and tools away from electrical areas.
- Reassemble and test once. Refit the infuser until it seats correctly, reinstall the tray and grounds container, close the service door and power on. Check whether the same warning returns.
These checks follow De’Longhi’s general-alarm guidance. If the infuser cannot be removed, De’Longhi advises a complete normal startup and shutdown before another gentle attempt; never force it. The precise access and button sequence must still match your ECAM variant.
What the result tells you
| Observation | Next step |
|---|---|
| Alarm clears after cleaning and reseating | Monitor the next normal brew. Keep the tray and infuser care schedule from your manual. |
| Infuser is stuck or does not click back in | Stop pulling or pushing it. Follow the Magnifica Evo stuck brew-group guide or contact De’Longhi. |
| Alarm returns immediately | Record the exact light combination and seek manufacturer support. Repeated power cycling will not identify the cause. |
| Water leaks internally, breaker trips or machine smells burnt | Leave it unplugged where safe and arrange service. |
When to contact service
Contact De’Longhi if the general alarm remains after the permitted cleaning and reassembly, a removable part cannot be moved without force, or the machine shows an unsafe electrical or water symptom. Give support your full ECAM number, a photo of the panel and the step at which the error appeared. Do not order an internal replacement part on the basis of a general alarm alone.
For a different symbol, use the Magnifica Evo warning-light guide. You can also return to the De’Longhi error-code directory or model page.
