For the North American E8 covered by the linked NAA manual, descaling starts at the “Descale” prompt and ends after the fresh-water rinse. The important change between stages is where the water goes: catch the solution at the hot-water nozzle, then position the receptacle under both the coffee spout and the hot-water spout before starting the rinse.
This sequence follows the E8 NAA instruction book, printed pages 28–29. E8 generations and regional versions differ. Match your machine’s manual and screen prompts before mixing chemicals; do not transfer these quantities or outlet positions to a different E8 simply because the name is the same.
Before you start
The documented program takes about 40 minutes. Set aside enough time to finish it. If the machine leaks, cannot dispense or shows an error, resolve that condition with JURA before starting a chemical cycle. With a recognized CLEARYL Smart filter in use, this E8 normally does not request descaling. Do not remove an active filter merely to force a cycle.
- Three original JURA descaling tablets and 17 oz (500 ml) of water for the documented solution.
- Fresh cold water for the final rinse.
- A stable, heat-safe receptacle positioned to catch the specified outlets, plus access to a sink.
Keep the cleaner away from children and avoid skin and eye contact. Follow its safety label, protect sensitive surfaces and keep hands away from hot discharge. Do not use vinegar or substitute the product from the coffee-system cleaning tablet cycle.

Complete the prompted stages
- Start from the Descale prompt. Open the Cockpit, select Descale, then Start. At Empty drip tray, empty the tray and coffee grounds container and reinstall them. The next preparation prompt is Agent in tank.
- Prepare the solution separately. Remove and empty the tank. Completely dissolve the specified tablets in the measured water in a separate receptacle, then pour the dissolved solution into the tank and reinstall it. Do not add extra tablets to compensate for slow flow.
- Catch the solution discharge. Put the receptacle beneath the hot-water nozzle and select Next. Water is delivered in stages. Wait for the display to request Empty drip tray; pauses alone are not a reason to restart.
- Prepare for the rinse at both outlets. Empty and reinstall the drip tray and grounds container when requested. At Rinse the water tank / Fill water tank, empty the catch receptacle and reposition it beneath the coffee spout and the hot-water spout. Rinse the tank thoroughly, fill it with fresh cold water and reinstall it.
- Run the fresh-water rinse. With both outlets covered, select Next and let the program finish. Complete the final Empty drip tray prompt by emptying and reinstalling the tray and grounds container. Check the display before making a drink.
| Stage | Receptacle position | Next checkpoint |
|---|---|---|
| Descaling solution | Hot-water nozzle | The next tray-emptying prompt |
| Fresh-water rinse | Coffee spout and hot-water spout | The final tray-emptying prompt |
If the program does not finish normally
Read the current message before pressing anything else. A request to empty the tray or refill the tank is a stage to complete, not proof that the cleaner failed. If the program stops unexpectedly, the NAA manual says to rinse the water tank thoroughly. Do not assume the internal rinse is complete, add another chemical dose or serve coffee while completion is uncertain. Follow the remaining display instructions, or contact JURA with the exact message and the stage where it stopped.
Stop for a leak or electrical fault. Do not touch wet electrical parts; have power isolated safely. If a completed cycle leaves coffee flowing only in drops, use the E8 slow-flow checks. Repeated descaling is not a substitute for diagnosis.
FAQ
Will a new filter replace this prompted cycle?
A filter change and descaling are different programs. Check the machine’s filter status and the instructions for its exact version. The CLEARYL replacement guide covers filter installation.
Can I stop after the solution has emptied?
No. The fresh-water rinse and final tray prompt are part of the procedure. Solution leaving the tank does not mean maintenance is finished.
