Unplug the machine before opening panels or touching internal components. Stop if you see damaged wiring, smell burning, or are unsure about a pressurized or electrical part.

Quick answer: If your K-Supreme uses Keurig’s compatible tall handle water-filter kit, replace its cartridge about every two months or 60 reservoir refills. Keurig’s filter instructions say to soak a new cartridge in water for five minutes, rinse it for 60 seconds, clean the holder mesh, snap the holder shut, set the date dial two months ahead, and push the assembly into the reservoir until it locks. The water filter is optional; confirm your holder matches the K-Supreme reservoir.

Filter versus reusable coffee filter

This guide concerns the water cartridge in the reservoir. It does not cover the My K-Cup reusable coffee filter in the pod area. The K-Supreme use guide separately calls for regular descaling, about every three months or when prompted. A fresh water cartridge does not clear the Descale notification.

Supplies

  • A compatible Keurig water filter cartridge and matching tall handle holder
  • Fresh water, a sink and access to the reservoir
K-Supreme water filter replacement: soak, rinse, assemble holder and lock into reservoir
Prepare the cartridge before placing the holder in the reservoir.

Replace the cartridge

  1. Turn off and unplug the brewer. Remove the reservoir and lift out the old filter assembly if installed.
  2. Open the holder and discard the old cartridge. Soak the replacement in fresh water for five minutes, then rinse it under running water for 60 seconds.
  3. Wash the stainless mesh of the lower holder. Put the rinsed cartridge into the upper holder and snap the lower holder into place.
  4. Set the replacement date dial two months ahead. Put the assembly in the reservoir and press down until locked; do not force an incompatible holder.
  5. Fill the tank with fresh water and seat it, making sure the reservoir locking tabs engage the brewer.

After replacement

If the ADD WATER light stays on despite a full tank, follow our reservoir check. If the machine will not brew, use the K-Supreme brew diagnosis. Neither issue proves that the cartridge is faulty.

FAQ

Does the filter replace descaling?

No. Keurig’s instructions explicitly say to keep descaling the brewer.

Can I put a previous reusable coffee filter into the pod holder?

That is a different product. The K-Supreme manual specifies the newly designed My K-Cup Universal reusable filter for that position.
