Before you start

Unplug the machine before opening panels or touching internal components. Stop if you see damaged wiring, smell burning, or are unsure about a pressurized or electrical part.

Quick answer: For the Saeco Xelsis SM7680 family, remove and rinse the brew group under the tap every week, carefully clean its upper filter, and let it air-dry before reinstalling. Once a month, use the separate on-screen Brew group clean program with a Philips coffee oil remover tablet. The tablet program is not a substitute for the physical weekly rinse.

Two different tasks

Task When Purpose
Remove and rinse brew group Weekly Clear loose coffee residue from removable surfaces
Brew group clean program Monthly Remove coffee oils from the brewing path with a specified tablet

Lubrication is a third task with a usage-dependent interval. If the machine displays Error 03, follow the diagnosis for a dirty or poorly lubricated group; cleaning may be one step, not a guaranteed repair.

Supplies and safe access

Use lukewarm running water, a clean sink and the approved Philips coffee oil remover tablet for the monthly program. Power down normally before opening the service door. Do not tug the group while its mechanism is moving; follow the manual’s release method. Keep the tablet out of the water tank unless your machine explicitly directs otherwise.

Saeco Xelsis brew group care: weekly removal and rinse, air dry, refit, monthly tablet program
Weekly hands-on rinse and monthly guided cleaning serve different purposes.

Weekly rinse

  1. Switch off and wait for the machine to finish. Open the service door and remove the group as described for your Xelsis variant.
  2. Rinse the brew group thoroughly with water and gently clean the accessible upper filter.
  3. Allow it to air-dry. Saeco specifically says not to rub it dry with a cloth, because fibers can collect inside.
  4. Check its alignment and slide it into its guide rails until it clicks; do not press the PUSH release while inserting. Close the service door.

Monthly coffee-oil cycle

On the Xelsis display, select Clean → Brew group clean and follow the prompts using the approved Philips coffee oil remover tablet. Do not substitute a descaling tablet. If the group will not seat, use our Error 04 seating guide before applying force. If coffee still does not dispense, use the no-coffee flow checks.

FAQ

Can I put the whole group in a dishwasher?

Follow the manual’s water-rinse method for this removable group; its table calls for rinsing under the tap.

Does the monthly tablet replace lubrication?

No. Lubrication has its own interval and specified grease.
